NEWS Gay Police Network of Spain started 28th of april 2006 In a wonderful ambiance in the Palace Maricel in Sitges a meeting took place. In that meeting the Minister of Interior, Mayor of Sitges, Chairman of Xagay and the President of Eurogaypolice made their speeches about the importance of the visibility of homosexuality inside the police.Later the participants discussed with each other to start a network inside the police of Spain. 3 Workshops were organised: 1. Diversity 2. Bullying 3. Homosexuality at schools At the end of the day 28 police officers joined the Gay Police Netwerk of Spain. Thanks to Victor Argelaguet who organised with other enthousistic collegues this meeting. A great result and an example to a lot of European countries. The Euro Gaypolice Association welcomes this new network!
networking Europride - London 2006 The Gay Police Association will be marching at Europride 2006 in London 1st July 2006. European Gay Police Conference 2006 This years Conference is to be held in Stockholm , Sweden on the Thursday 3 rd & Friday 4 th August 2006 . The See the Difference Conference takes place during Stockholm Pride Celebrations. The Conference is to be held at a venue on the outskirts of the City and the Swedish Police Union are endeavouring to negotiate special rates at nearby hotels for delegates. The UK Police Service will be allocated a number of delegate places. Early indication is that the allocation is for 20 free delegate places. FREE is for the CONFERENCE ONLY, NOT TRAVEL or ACCOMMODATION. To ensure as wide a spread as possible of roles and Forces, the GPA will co-ordinate the allocation of these places. The co-ordination will be carried out by the Staff Association Officer, Karen Burton. More detailed information as to the content will be available shortly on the Swedish Police website, www.polisen.se follow the link to “See the difference”. If you wish to register your interest in attending as a delegate, please contact Karen at staff@gpa.police.uk Force Coordinators The Gay Police Association is the only national staff association mandated by The Home Office to assist the development of gay policing issues, however there are still no full time GPA workers. The GPA now has Regional and Force Coordinators in most UK Forces however. These are GPA members who identify as gay, appointed by the National Coordinator to represent GPA national policy and practise at a local level. Although in addition to their full time job, the role of the force coordinator is to help alleviate feelings of isolation often experienced by many gay police employees.
